Drummer Dan Dorff
propels The Jazz Circle with great energy and sensitivity. He was trained
as a classical percussionist and pianist and brings a deep musicality
to his jazz drumming. He has a contemporary swinging approach and an
intuitive ability to react to a soloist in subtle and exciting ways.
Dan recently completed
his master's degree in jazz studies at the University of Louisville.
He has studied drums with John von Ohlen and arranging with John LaBarbara.
He has played with Dave Leibman, Bill Watrous, Slide Hampton and Marcus
Strickland and once subbed for the great Roy Haynes. Dan recently toured
Russia, Estonia and Finland as part of a jazz education program and
is composing music for his first recording as a leader.
