Trombonist
Bill Gemmer has a warm, clear tone and an amazing range and agility on
his instrument. His solo style is swinging and soulful; his improvisations
flow with intelligence and grace. His sound is rich with musical influences
that range from traditional to mainstream jazz.
Bill
studied at the Berklee School of Music and toured with the Glenn Miller
and Tommy Dorsey orchestras in the 1970's. He also spent some time in
Europe with the South German Radio Orchestra and has performed with
the Smithsonian Jazz Ensemble and the Columbus
Jazz Orchestra. He can be heard on recordings with the
Blue Wisp Big Band and other groups. Bill is also leader and
arranger of his own 10-piece swing group, The Sleep
Cat Band.
