As for bassist Mike Sharfe, it all begins
with his sound; he has a distinctively
rich classic jazz bass tone, alive and
expressive. His sense of time and energy
anchor The Jazz Circle rhythm section
whether it be a hard-driving swing or
a sinuous groove. His soulful improvisations
and the subtlely of interplay with his band
mates are hallmarks of his playing.
Mike has played with jazz artists such as
Joe Lovano, Eddie Daniels, Sonny Stitt,
Benny Wallace, John Scofield, Joe Pass,
Herb Ellis, Dan Faehnle, Laurindo Almeida,
Cal Collins, Lynn Arriale and Steve Schmidt.
He can be found on hundreds of recordings
with jazz groups, symphony orchestras
and projects that run the gamut of
contemporary recorded music. Mike is a
founding member of the noted Blue Wisp
Big Band and has played and recorded with
that group for over 25 years.
